JEWISH REPORT

PARTICIPATION IN TALKS PROBABLE DECISION OF EXECUTIVE ( I BRITISH VIEWS STATED (Rec. 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 16. No solution has resulted from the talks between Lieutenant-General Cunningham and Jamal Hussein! on the Arab representation at the London conference. This is officially confirmed in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, three members of the Jewish Agency flew to Paris from London .to-day for the hurriedlysummoned executive conference, and well-informed Jewish sources predict that the result of the meeting will probably be Jewish participation in the Palestine conference. Addressing the conference to-day, the British Foreign Minister (Mr. Bevin) emphasised that the. British Government was of the opinion that the plan for provincial autonomy was a fair and workable one which could lead to a final solution of the problem. Mr. Bevin added that the Government would consider any counterproposals by the Arabs or the Jews, but, at the moment, provincial autonomy remained the basis of discussion. Mr. Bevin also' referred to the possibility of eventual trusteeship under the United Nations. The Arabs requested an indefinite adjournment to enable them to study his statement. The conference adjourned. ARABS AND THE JEWISH AGENCY (Rec. 2 p.m.) JERUSALEM, Sept. 16. The Arab Higher Committee has sent a letter to General Cunningham demanding the dissolution of the Jewish Agency and all other .Jewish organisations “directing terrorist ac- i tivity,” the control of all Jewish funds and the carrying out of the death sentences against Jews found guilty of terrorism; also collective fines on the Jewish population to compensate for damage and provocation. “The Arab Higher Committee will be bound to suggest that the Arabs prepare to de- | fend their fives and property without depending on the forces of the Government.” A Jewish Agency spokesman to- , day denied that the agency had any power to stop the Palestine terrorism. Just at the moment, the spokesman! declared, the Jewish Agency was not in a position to issue orders to the Irgun Zvai Leumi and the Stern Gang j asTt had no connection with them. i A member of the Stern Gang cata- | pulted a bundle of leaflets through a j window among correspondents at a press conference. The leaflets stated that no matter what the official Jewish institutions decided the Stern Gang would continue to fight.
