TRUMAN URGES SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE (Roc. 12.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 16. President Truman has asked the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council to summon’a world scientific conference in the latter half of 1947 “somewhere in the United States” to consider the conservation and utilisation of global resources, including peaceful uses of atomic energy. President Truman said: “Real or exaggerated fear of a shortage of resources and declining standards of living have in the past involved nations in war. Every member of the United Nations is interested in preventing a recurrence of that fear and those consequences.”
