Greymouth Programme for October - Stakes' totalling £3500 have been offered by the Greymouth Trotting Club for it? spring meeting, to be held at Victoria Park on October 26 and 28. ’The programme is as follows: — First Day. Introductory Handicap, of £175; 3.43 class for 11 miles; for unhoppled or half-hoppled trotters only; one mile and five furlongs. Midland Handicap, of £175; 2.59 class for I.} miles; 101 furlongs. Diggers’ Handicap, of £200; 2.56 class for L’,- miles; 101 furlongs. Kitchingham Memorial Handicap, of £4oo;' 4.44 class for two miles; two miles. Royal Oak Handicap, of £175;. 3.43 class for 11 miles; for unhoppled and half-hoppled trotters only; one mile and five furlongs. Blaketown Handicap, of £175; 3.56 class for 11 miles; one mile and five furlongs. Advance Handicap, of £200; 3.52 class for 11 miles; one mile and five furlongs. The total stake mone5 r will be £3500. an increase of. £360 on last year’s. The main event will carry a stak" £4O in excess of that for the main race at the corresponding meeting last year. The class of the race, however, will be more open, 4.41 horses being catered for as against horsed timed to do 4.41. £7500 Stake for N.Z. Trotting Cup. Horses assessed on 4.20 or better will be eligible to compete for the stake of £7500 which will be given by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club for the New Zealand Trotting Cup. the main event at the four-day November meeting of the club. The winner will receive £4975 (including the £lOO gold cun), the second horse £l5OO, third horse £750, and fourth £375. The stake is the same as was given last year, but the limit, is a second tighter. The proposed conditions are suoject to the approval of the New Zealand Trotting Association. With the limit set at 4.20, younghorses will be in the minority, and the field will be comprised mostly of hardened veterans. Of the 17 horses eligible at present, the seven-year-old Volo Senwod is the baby of the field, and next to him is the eight-year-old Integrity. Shadow Maid and Knave of Diamonds are nine years old; and the 10-year-olds include Bronze Eagle, Burt Scott, Gold Bar, Countless, Sea Born. Clockwork, and Bulldozer. Haughty (the most tightly-assessed mare in commission) is 11, and others of the same age are Happy Man, Josedale Grattan and Double Peter. Loyal Friend is 12, while the distinction of being the oldest contestant goes to Dusky Sound, which, at 13, appears to be getting past his best.

Photo-chart Apparatus for Auckland (P.A.) . ■ AUCKLAND, Sept. 16. A photo-chart apparatus to record the finish of races may soon be in use by the Auckland Racing Club. A start has been made in constructing the tower in which the equipment will be housed. It is hoped that the apparatus will be in operation at the club’s spring meeting at Ellerslie on October 12.—-(P.A.)
