COUNCIL OF SPORT
GRANTS AND COMMUNITY CENTRES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept 17. The organisation of the New Zealand Council of Sport was discussed with the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr. Parry) when a deputation from the council waited on him. The main points discussed were the distribution of grants to sports bodies, the construction of community centres and their possible relationship with war memorials, said Mr. 'J. Meltzer, chairman of the council, at a meeting last night. The deputation expressed satisfaction with the receipt of grants which had been allocated by the Government. It was decided to proceed with plans for a complete national survey of sporting facilities in New Zealand.' The council also decided to endeavour to make an estimate of the number of men and women participating in the various sports throughout New Zealand.
