LAWN TENNIS United Club Active Again This Year

The United Tennis Club, which has been in recess during the war years, held its annual meeting las evening. There was a large attendance of old and new members and every indication was given of a most promising season. The meeting was opened by an address from the president, Mr. A. L. McKay, who extended a welcome to all new members and especially to the large number of returned servicemen present. “The 1939-45 war was the second war,” stated Mr. McKay, “causing the United Club to go into recess, and it is a credit to the older members, especially the ladies’ committee, that they have kept the club alive, though not functioning, so that the facilities would be available for the club’s returning players.” The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. A. L. McKay; vice-presidents, Messrs J. • W. Hannan, G. R. Harker, G. Kear and J. R. Leitch; club captain, Mr. R. Hamilton; secretary, Mr. A. F. Laing; terasurer, Mr. R. Kear; auditor, Miss D. Blair. Women’s and men’s committees were also elected and the annual subscription was set at £l/10/- for seniors and 7/6 for school children. The club captain, Mr. R. Hamilton, was appointed the club's delegate to the Lawn Tennis Association. The opening day was set down as Saturday, October 19. It was unanimously decided to give full support to the committee conducing the fancy dress carnival in the United Pavilion this week. Woodhouse, Misses V. Clements and S. Diehl; men’s committee, Messrs. H. C. Hill, R. Mitchell, E. Pankhurst, M. McDonald, and E. Pattinson; delegates to Lawn Tennis Association*, Messrs. W. Berry and R. Mitchell.
