POWER EXTENSION

TIMBER WORKERS SEEK EARLY ACTION SOUTH WESTLAND SUPPLY The Westland Timber Workers’ Union has officially interested itself in the efforts being made to extend the Grey Electric Power Board’s reticulation system into districts south of the Taramakau river. The secretary of the union, Mr F. L. Turley, has written to the Minister of Works, Mr Semple, requesting that all obstacles to the early extension ol the power lines into South Westland should be overcome. The letter points out that a supply of electricity is an urgent necessity for the sawmilling industry and for the homes of the workers engaged in the mills in South Westland. It also stresses that a supply of electricity must have a big bearing on arresting the drift of population from the country to the towns. It is understood that the matter will again come before this week’s meeting of the union executive.
