FAREWELL SOCIAL

BUILDING CONTROLLER HONOURED Mr. J. R. Williams, building controller for the West Coast, and Housing Department overseer, who will leave shortly on transfer to Auckland, was the guest of honour last evening at a social sponsored by the Westland Master Builders’ Assn, and the Greymouth Hardware Merchants' Assn. There was an attendance of about 50, those present representing the building and allied trades in all the main towns of the province. The president of the Master Builders’ Assn., Mr. L. B. Davenport, who was chairman, .presented Mr. Williams with an envelope of notes in appreciation of his services on the West Coast. There were numerous other speakers, including Messrs O. Jackson, master plumbers; J. Griffin, New Zealand Concrete Pipe Co.; A. Agnew, painters; Kilgour, Tingeys; K. Dalton, timber merchants; G. Batty, Builders’ Association; J. Ford, Rehabilitation Department; A. G. Wells, Reefton Builders; W. Meates, West Coast Cricket Association; J. H. North, hardware merchants; H. Hutchison, Government departments; W. Lindsay,-Ashby Bergh; P. Renton (Hokitika),, and H. Stevens, Housing Department, Christchurch. 1 During the evening opportunity was taken to extend a welcome to Mr. William’s successor at Greymouth, Mr. Clothier. Entertainment was provided by Messrs F. W. Coleman, W. Thomas, W. Payne, F. Woodhouse, T. Hatch, A.' Agnew and T, Brown.
