Runanga Drainage. Critical comment on the type or drainage used at many dwellings in Runanga was made by the State Advances Department property supervisor, Mr. R. G. Drummond, at a sitting of the Westland Land Sales Committee at Greymouth this morning. He stated that in one house he had inspected, the waste water pipes ran through the floor and emptied into wooden drains under the house. These flowed into an open drain at the side of the house, and by this method emptied into an adjacent creek. “I cannot see how this can comply with the Health Department’s regulations,” he declared, adding that this system was widely used in the township. “Well, they are getting away with it,” commented the chairman, Mr. M. Wallace. “So far,” agreed the witness, who added that such a position would not be tolerated in Greymouth.
