MONTGOMERY’S VISIT

l) TSC USS lON AV ITII AII LI TA RY AUTHORITIES

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 8. When the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, Field-Marshal Viscount Montgomery, visits New Zealand next year he will have discussions with the Government and military authorities. Advice of his projected visit has been received by the Government from the United Kingdom Government through the High Commissioner (Sir Patrick Duff). The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said this evening that the Government was pleased that New Zealand would have the opportunity of doing honour to Field-Marshal Montgomery for his leadership of the armies in North Africa and western Europe. There was nothing definite about the duration of his visit, but it was hoped it would be sufficiently long to allow him full opportunity not only for military discussions, but also for visits to different parts of New Zealand so that he could meet the people generally.
