STALE BREAD
LARGE QUANTITY CONDEMNED

(Rec. 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 8. Following reports on the maunt of stale bread condemned throughout the country as unfit for human consumption, the Ministry of Food has decided to re-establish the bread and confectionery panels which were established, a year ago when the flour extraction rate was reduced to 80 per cent. The aim of the panels will be to improve the quality of the bread baked with 90 per cent, extraction of flour. The panels will consist of bakers working voluntarily and Ministry demonstrators. Food officers estimate that about. 20,000,000' extra point’s weekly are being handed out in London alone in exchange for unused bread units. These points arc being used lor the purchase of food.
