GALLANTRY AWARDS

GREYMOUTH SURF CLUB MEMBERS Two members of the Greymouth Surf Life Saving Club, Messrs P. Affleck and C. Richardson, have been cited for awards for gallantry by the Council of the New Zealand Surf Life Saving Association, as a result of their rescue of two men who were marooned on a rock while fishing at the Ten Mile last March. Mr. Affleck will receive the Silver Meritorious Award, which has been conferred only twice previously since the formation of the association, and Mr. Richardson will receive the Brpnze Meritorious Award. The suggestion has been made by the association that the presentation of the medals should take place at a public function but no arrangements in this regard have been finalised. The Greymouth Club has received a congratulatory letter from the National Committee of Swimming and Life Saving, placing on record its appreciation of the very gallant action of Messrs Affleck and Richardson in effecting the rescue under hazardous conditions and with absolute disregard of personal danger.
