Election Date.
An indication was given by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) when the House of Representatives resumed yesterday afternoon that the date of the election will probably be announced this week. It has not yei been decided whether the election will be held on a Saturday or in the middle of the week. ” Mr. Fraser said he thought it would be desirable for the date of the election to be fixed as soon as possible so that the business of the House/could be arranged to give adequate time to members, particularly those with big electorates. —(P-A.)
National Savings. ’ The feature of last week s National Savings operations was the attainment by a North Island district of its full year’s quota. The. district was Gisborne. Four South Island districts (Blenheim, Nelson, Dunedin and Oamaru) already have similar achievements to their credit. Of the 335 National Savings quota offices in the Dominion, 287 obtained their objectives last week, this being the highest number recorded in any one week during recent months. All the principal centres were successful and in all postal districts the full district objective for the week was obtained.
