FINES FOR BY-LAW BREACHES . There was only a shortlist of cases for hearing at to-day’s sitting of thMagistrate’s Court at Greymouth, when Mr. A. A. McLachlan, .-’.M., presided. , , Vincent John Hahn, who did not appear, was fined 5/-, with 10/costs, for cycling at night in Hign street without a light. For a similar offence in Gresson street, Clarence O’Brien was fined 10/-, with 10/- costs. Matthew Marley was charged with keening a dog for more than 14 days, without registration. The defendant did not appear but forwarded a written explanation to the court. _ Constable A. E. K. Keown said he had occasion to interview the defendant regarding the dog and he made a statement that it had been m his possession for two and a half years and had never been registered. The Magistrate said that the defendant, in his .letter, claimed that the dog belonged to his eldest son. A fine of £ 1/10/—, with 10/- costs, was inflicted. In the following civil debt cases, judgment was given for the plaintiff, by default, with costs: — W. H. Boucher v. Richard Robertson, £3/3/11, costs £l/3/6; Tim Sinnott v. D. Jamieson, £5/10/-, costs £l/10/6.
