BRITISH WOMEN MARRYING FOREIGNERS .
(Rec. 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 1. The principles for the legislation protecting the nationality of British women marying foreigners were agreed on by Britain, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Canada, said the Home Secretary (Mr Chuter Ede) in the House of Commons. He added that it was agreed that the law should provide that a British woman on marriage to a foreigner shall not lose her British nationality, unless she takes active steps to do so. This is io apply whether or not she automatically acquires her husband’s nationality.
A foreign woman on her marriage to a British subject shall not automatically acquire British nationality, but shall have the right to apply for it.
A conference of experts is contemplated this year to examine questions affecting the nationality law in a number of Empire countries. Mr Chuter Ede, in reply to a question, said that Eire had not been invited to the conference.
