THE WEATHER Forecast: Cloudy to Overcast

The following weather forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon to-day:— Situation.—A depression is east of New Zealand and far to the southwest; an anti-cyclone is over southern Queensland. Forecast to 5 p.m. to-morrow: Decreasing south-westerly winds; occasional showers to-day north of Hokitika;- weather becoming fair to-morrow; temperatures cool. Further outlook: Changeable westerly conditions. LOCAL RECORDINGS. 9 a.m.—Barometer, 996; thermometer, 53; wind, southerly (strong breeze); sky, overcast, with intermittent rain; bar, considerable sea; rainfall, 58 points. (The rainfall to date this year is 44.10 inches.) The depth on the bar at high water yesterday was 22ft 9in.
