'Twelve Players Chosen by iviic.c. (Rec. 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 18. The M.C.C. has invited the following English cricketers to tour Australia: —Hammond (captain), Yardlev, Gibb, Hutton, Washbrook, Compton, Hardstaff, Wright, Bedser, Voce, Ikin and Evans. It is generally expected that Yardley will be vice-captain. Gibb is the successor to Ames as wicket-keeper and the other wicket-keeper is Evans. Hutton, Washbrook, Compton, and Hardstaff with Hammond provide Impressive batting strength. Ikin, a left-hand batsman and a right-hand slow bowler, is a new all-rounder. Bowlers are A. V. Bedser (righthand, fast-medium), Voce (left-hand fast-medium), and Wright (slow leg-breaks and googlies). It is expected that four more players will be chosen. The Press Association says that Pollard is the most likely candidate as: an opening bowler supporting Voce and Bedser. Washbrook’s Century for iho Flayers LONDON, July .17, A magnificent opening partnership of 173 by Fish lock, a probable for England’s team for Australia, -and Washbrook, who is considered a certainty, was a feature of the first day’s play in the match Gentlemen v. Players. Washbrcok’s century was the first for the Players since the Y'orkshireifian Mitchell's in 1934. Washbrook batted for 175 minutes and hit 11 fours.
