REQUEST FOR GOVERNMENT CONTROL OTTAWA, May 31. The Canadian Seamen’s Union telegraphed the Labour Minister, Mr. Mitchell, urging that the Government take oven the Great Lakes shipping companies. The union said this sep was necessary to effect a strike tlement and to avoid bloodshed. _ The union alleged that the shipowners had defied the Minister s truce proposals, and had declared war on the Seamen’s Union.
