FILIPINO REBELS
CLASH WITH TROOPS MANILA, May 29. A 12-hour battle involving 2000 guerillas and military police was reported whiFe the new president (Dr. Manuel Roxas) discussed the pressing situation at his first Cabinet meeting. . The rebellious faction in the interior called Hukbalahaps fought Filipino troops and police 70 miles north of Manila. Eight Filipinos were killed and two wounded. An undetermined number of Hukbalahaps were killed, including the leader Jesus de Los Santos. The Filipino leader said his men were ambushed on the way to Manila to attend Dr. Roxas’s inauguration.
