STOLEN IN ENGLAND

CAMERA FOUND IN DEALER’S SHOP RETURNED AIRMAN’S CLAIM (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 30. After having lost his camera in Brighton, England, while serving with the New Zealand Air Force, Esive Singh, of Wellington, returned to New Zealand to see what he considered was his camera in a secondhand dealer’s shop in Chirstchurch last February. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., Singh sought to obtain possession of the camera from Siegmund Zucker, second-hand dealer, of Christchurch .

| An application was made by Detective L. D. Harrowfield for the Magistrate to determine the ownership of the camera. Singh said that he joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1941, and he purchased a camera before he left for overseas. Pie had also purchased a range-finder for the camera, and he had drilled holes to attach a clip for the range-finder. While he was stationed at Brighton, England, the camera was stolen. One evening last February, when he was on fleave in Christchurch, he saw a camera in a second-hand dealer’s shop in Manchester street, and he identified it as his own by a clip which he had attached. He went to Wellington that night and got in touch with the police there. He had since seen the camera, and had further identified it by a defect on its time exposure shutter. Siegmund Zucker, second-hand dealer, Christchurch, said that he thoroughly examined the camera before he bought it, and the shutter was not defective then. He said that many cameras of this type had attachments for range-finders.

The Magistrate said that the work done on the range-finder was not shop finished. He ordered that possession of the camera be given to Singh.
