TYRE RETREADS

OIL FUEL LICENSES TO BE PRODUCED PROCEDURE EXPLAINED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 31. “When the new system of oil fuel rationing becomes operative, from June 1 next, it will be necessary for motor vehicle users who require retreads to produce to the retreaders their oil fuel licenses for May,” said the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan, in a press statement. “This will be the method used for determining the qualification for either ‘A’ or *B’ grade qualities of camelback. Those vehicle owners who possess oil fuel licenses which were renewed • each month, and which normally would have been surrendered, should retain them in order that they can be shown to their retreader as evidence for the determination of the qualification for retreads. “In those instances where new applications are made by persons not .hitherto in possession of oil fuel licenses, they should make direct application to the Chief Postmaster or Postmaster of the office where the oil fuel records are held. It will be necessary,, first, to obtain and complete a recapping and retreading certificate from their retreader in support of the application. This procedure will also apply to any special license holders who may have surrendered the May license. “Retreads of ‘A’ grade quality will be issued where it is established that the applicant is engaged on duties which under the previous system of rationing would have consumed 20 gallons of oil fuel each month, and in the case ‘B’ grade, four gallons monthly. The Minister added: “I have every confidence that mutual co-operation between retreaders and vehicle users will result in the effective implementation of this alteration in retreading control. The assurance is also given that directly sufficient supplies of materials are available in New Zealand, retreading .controls will be removed completely unless something untoward occurs. This should takeplace in the very near future.
