COMMERCIAL LAMBS KEENLY SOUGHT AT ADDINGTON MARKET

Fat lambs, store lambs, and store sheep met good competition at firm prices at Addington yesterday. Fat cattle and fat sheep were inclined to be easier.

Store Sheep.— The best price , for lambs was 28/6, secured for a fine line of 117 Romney ewe lambs. Best halfbred ewe lambs made from 24/to 26/-, and medium 22/- to 23/9. Best wether lambs made to 22/3, medium 19/6 to 21/-, and small and backward from 11/9 to Ewes made up to 26/j, at which price ttvo lines «of Romney-cross wer'e sold. Medium ewes made 19/6 to 23/-, and aged and inferior 15/- to 18/-. The best of the wethers made to 34/4, which was secured for a station line of 104 of high quality. Best wethers made from 29/6 to the top price, medium 26/- to 28/6, and others 21/to 25/6. Fat Lambs.— The quality showed improvement and prices were about 1/- better than in recent weeks. Freezing buyers took about 75 pei' cent, of the entry. Values were: — Extra prime lambs, to 37/10; prime, 33/7 to 36/7; good, 29/6 to 32/10; medium, 26/- to 28/10; light, 21/6 to 24/-. Fat Sheep.— The quality of the yarding was good and prices were slightly firmer than at last week’s sale. Values were:—Extra prime heavy wethers, to 55/1; prime heavy wethers, 40/- to 46/-; prime med-ium-weight wethers, 32/6 to 39/-; ordinary and light, 28/6 to 32/-; extra prime maiden ewes, to 50/1; extra prime ewes, 27/- to 32/6; prime ewes, 22/- to 26/6; medium and light,

13/- to 21/-. 41 Fat Cattle.—The quality of the entry was moderate except that several good lines from the West Coast were offered. Prices generally were .easier, but not quotably so. Best ’beef made to 55/- per 1001 b, good 46/- to 50/-, medium 40/- to 43/-. Best cow beef made to 34/-, and secondary to 30/6. Values were:— Extra prime steers, to £24/12/b, prime steers, £l9 to £2l/10/-; prime medium-weight steers, £l6 2/6 to £lB/2/6; ordinary steers, £ll 10/- to £l5/10/-; extra prime heifers, to £l7/2/6; prime heifers, £l2/17/6 to £l4/7/6; medium heifers, £lO/7/6 to £l2/10/-; others, from £7/10/-; extra prime cows, to £l3/7/6; prime cows, £9/15/- to £l2; medium cows, £5/15/- to £8 10/-; ’ light cows, £5 to £6/10/-. Among the best sales were:—On account of J. J. Wylie (Omihi), 8 steel s at £2O/17/6 to £23/17/6: Anderson Bros. (Waitaha), 15 steers at £l9 7/6 to £24/12/6 (average £2l/6/-); R. A. Harcourt (Koiterangi), lb steers at £2O/7/6 to £2l/17/6 (average £2O/5/-). Store Cattle.— Little of good quality came forward. Some good West Coast calves made up' to £6/8/6. Best price of the sale was £ll/I'B/6. for a single steer. Vealers. —Values were: Large vcalers, £5/18/6 to £B/6/-; others, £4 6/- to £5/13/6; best suckers, £5/1/to £6/16/-; medium, £3/11/- to £4 18/6; large calves, 48/- to 65/-; medium, 43/- to 45/-; small and rough, 8/- to 30/-. ■ Dairy Cattle.— From a slow beginning the sale improved until values were on a par with the rates at last week’s market. Best second, third, and fourth calvers made £l4 to £lB/10/-; good average sorts, £lO 10 1- to £l3/10/-; aged and interior, £5/5/- to £9/5/-. Best heifers made £l5/10/- to £2O, with one at £26, good, £ll to £l4/I°/-; small and indifferent, £7/10/- to £lO/10/-, Fat p igs ._Most of the porkers from the West Coast. _Choppers dropped £1 to 30/- a head Values were:—Light porkers, 58/6 to £3/8/6; medium porkers, £aZl2/b to £3/19/6; heavy porkers, £4/4/6 to £4/14/6; choppers, £7/1/- to £ll/1/6; baconers, £4/13/6 to £4 19/6: medium baconers, £5/4/ b to £5/9/6; heavy baconers, £5/14/6 to £6/2/6; extra heavy baconers, Lb 7/6 to £6/19/6; average price per lb, B§d to 9id. Store Pigs.—The demand foi weaners was similar to last week s, but stores were easier by 2/- to 6/a head. Values were:—Small weaners, 12/- to 15/-; best weaners, 1//to 20/-; slips, 21/- to 25/-; small stores, 26/- to 30/-: medium stores 30/- to 34/-; large stores, 35/- to 40/-.
