Fire ceased this morning for a brief period during which a further batch of injured prisoners was removed to the police 'surgery for treatment, and a memorandum was drawn up stressing the inmates’ insistence on better food and fewer delays in hearing their cases. It .is reported that the. mutineers killed two of the 25 policemen held as hostages. Several nuns and 150 other women prisoners held on political or common charges were removed from the San Vittore gaol during the night while the police and the rioters observed a brief truce. The prisoners then renewed their display of force, maintaining resistance until the morning. . A thousand police .surround the gaol, while light tanks are patrolling. The revolt broke out and spread rapidly throughout the prison after some prisoners had attacked their guards and disarmed them. None Of the prisoners, 500 of whom are held on political charges, have yet escaped. They are demanding freedom. ~..
