EASTER IN AMERICA
BIG CROWDS ASSEMBLE IN NEW YORK NEW YORK, April 21. At least 1.000.000 persons took part in the city’s traditional Easter parade. Police estimated that it was the largest for many years sunshine made a perfect setting fo the promenaders who transformed the fashionable Fifth Avenue into a stream of flowers. Brightly-coloui ed floral hats predominated but, as usual, there was no limit to the fantastic millinery creations, ranging from a single bloom to a huge bouquet m which women of all ages from four to JU proudlv joined. It was noteworthy that elderly participants wore the brightest and most colourful hats. . A total of 30,000 attended the various Masses at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and 7000 worshippers filled the 11 o’clock service at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral. Most of the other churches were also crowded. Ideal weather also prevailed at ban Francisco where 50,000 attended the sunrise services on the top of Mount Davidson overlooking the Pacific. Similar big crowds filled the Hollywood Bowl and in Chicago 40;000 attended the dawn services at Soldiers Field.
