MR. XASII AND WHEAT SUPPLY
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 24. “I cannot conceive that Mr. Nash said such a thing,” said the DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, Mr. E. J. lawcett, referring to the cabled report from New Delhi that the Nev/ Zealand Minister of Finance had said that several hundred thousand tons of wheat would be made available to the Combined Food Board by New Zealand.
“Several hundred thousand may be taken to mean 200,000 tons or more, and 200,000 tons is 3,000.,000 bushels, approximately New Zealand’s annual consumption. Australia has been asked for only enough wheat for us to carry on with our own production,” said Mr. Fawcett.
