INDIAN NAVY

ADMIRAL’S COMMENTS ON

GRIEVANCES

(Rec. 2.15 p.m.) NEW DELHI, April 22

The grievances of the men of the Royal Indian Navy even the legitimate grievances were not sufficient for any disciplined service to mutiny over, said Vice-Admiral J. H. Godfrey, flag officer at the time of the disturbances in February, giving evidence before the Government commission investigating the origin of the mutinies. It was a fact said Vice Admiral Godfrey that for the same type of work the Royal Indian Navy men were paid less than the men in the Royal Navy, and in the Burma and Ceylon navies.

He added that there was great feeling about the colour ban among the Royal Indian Navy men who visited South African ports.
