Mrs. C. Wotton left for Wellington by air to-day. Mr. K. Reynolds left this morning for Wellington. Miss E. Costello left for Wellington by this morning’s plane. Mr. and Mrs. R. Phillips left for Nelson by air to-day.

Mr. P. Brown left this morning on his return to Christchurch. It is officially announced that the Duchess of Gloucester will undergo an operation for appendicitis at Gloucester House Hospital, Sydney, on April 28.—Sydney, April 22. , Brigadier W. G. Gentry, D. 5.0., 0.8. E., New Zealand Staff Corps, has been appointed New Zealand representative on the Joint Chiefs of Staff Organisation—British Occupational Force in Japan—in Australia, succeeding Brigadier Clifton. —(P.A.) An important appointment with the British Commonwealth forces in Japan has been given to Brigadier G. H. Clifton, D. 5.0., and two bars, M.p.,; who had a notable record of service with the New Zealand and Imperial Forces in the second World War.
