SERVICE RECRUITS
(Rec. 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 19. In about seven weeks’ recruiting there have been 4000 enlistments in New South Wales for interim service in Japan, the Islands or Australia. This is a larger number- than the Army expected to have to train, and only about 3000 have so far been called into camp. The original training plans were prepared under the expectation that a large proportion of the men enlisting would be ex-servicemen, but only one-third of the recruits are in that category.
