South African Forces.
General Smuts told the Assembly that South Africa would never be caught as unprepared as it was in 1939. South Africa would have a peace-time permanent force of 10,000 regulars, in addition' to a part-time citizen army corps of two divisions, an air force of 15 squadrons, coastal defence batteries,, and naval forces. ‘•'This is the largest peace-time army South Africa has ever had.”—Cape Town, April 18.
