WALKED OUT OF ASSEMBLY

SERIOUS-SPLIT IN FRENCH COALITION

ACTION BY M.R.P- PARTY

(Rec. 12.50 p.m. LONDON, April 17. Members of-the M.R.P. walked out of the French:Constituent Assembly late this afternoon, reports the Associated Press Paris correspondent. The break with the Socialists and Communists, with-whom they form the oalition is apparently serious. The M.R.P. gesture resulted in the collapse of the long negotiations within the Assembly Committee drafting the new constitution. The committee discussed the disputed points for most of last night and this morning, and the Socialist-Commun-ist bloc carried the presidential election proposals, defeating the M.R.P. amendments, which would have given the French Empire Council an equal voice with the Assembly in the selection of the future Chief of State. The Socialist-Communist plan is to have the President named by a majority of a single-house Legislature.
