WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

BLAKETOWN MEETING I Mrs. Parmenter presided over a fail’ attendance at the April meeting of the Blaketown Women’s Institute. Letters were received from a number of English W.I. members expressing thanks for food parcels sent by Blaketown women. Mrs. Mann was appointed delegate to attend the Dominion conference. Competition results were as follows: Scones: Mrs. Parmenter 1; Mrs. Collins 2; Mrs. McGeady 3. Sponge Bag: Mrs. L. Stewart 1; Mrs. F. Graham 2; Mrs P. Smith 3. Best small bloom: -Mrs F. Smith l;'Mrs. Marley 2; Mrs. Patterson 3. A practical demonstration of binder twine mats was given by Mrs. Parmenter. The president welcomed one new member. dobsonFmeeting The monthly meeting of the Dobson Women’s Institute was held on April 11, Mrs Batey presiding. The meeting opened with the singing of the ode, and the aspirations were read. The competition, a handkerchief, was won by Mrs Mellett, and the wandering 2/- by Mrs Hunter. During the evening W/O. J. B. Beirne ’-was entertained, items being given by Mesdames Dobbin and Hunter.

The usual presentation was made to him by Mrs Batey. After supper, the meeting closed with the singing of the New Zealand national anthem.
