REEFTON INCREASING PRODUCTION

DIESEL SHOVEL FOR COAL MINE

(0.C.) REEFTON, March 20. Messrs Eklund and party, of Reefton, have received advice that a diesel shovel which they ordered some months ago in England has been delivered in Wellington. The machine is expected to arrive at Reefton within 10 days and will then be assembled for transport to the party’s open-cast coal mine. This is the first shovel of this kind to be imported for use in the Reefton coal field., ft. has attachments for use as a dragline, a scoop, and a stripper, and is to be used in the working of an open face some 70 feet high, which is worked by hand at present. The use of the shovel will result in a very large increase in output from this mine. All the work necessary to produce and load the coal for transport to the railhead can be done by the machine, PERSONALS. Messrs N .Lawn (Wellington), S. Lawn (Dunedin), A. and V. C. Lawn (Christchurch) were visitors to Reefton on Monday. The Rev. Fathei’ Nolan, a former parish priest at Reefton, will visit the district this week. Miss P. Mitchell has returned from Christchurch, FUNERAL. Th funeral of Mrs. Sara Cohen took place at the Suburban Cemetery, Reefton. The cortege was lengthy. The services were conducted by the Rev. V. L. Leaning.
