| REJECTION OF AUSTRALIAN UNION’S OFFER J PROPOSAL FOR OBSERVERS MELBOURNE, March 20. J The Netherlands Government has ’rejected the Australian waterfront union’s proposals that two observers should travel on a Dutch ship carrying relief supplies to the Netherlands -East Indies. .j The Dutch Minister to Australia (Baron van Aerssen Beyeren van Voshol) said it had been made quite i. clear before the Commonwealth ArbiJi tration Court that the Netherlands [Government would not accept the idea of a trial ship or the proposal to send observers. Both schemes meant control of the actions of the Netherlands [Government and the South-east Asia [Command, and cast doubt on the sinj'cerity of the assurances given by the Minister on behalf of his Government.
I Following this, the Australasian Council of Trade Unions declared that it had not agreed to recommend two [observers. It is expected that two .names will be submitted in Sydney tomorrow, but that the council will almost certainly reject them. The counIcil agrees with the Federal Government that the distribution of medical and relief supplies must be left to the supervision of the British commander in Java.
