SPORTING NEW SYSTEM OF CONTROLLING TROTTING

Messrs. F. J. Beer, J. S. Shaw, and A. Commons have been appointed stipendiary stewards under the new method of controlling trotting meetings which came into force to-day at the Invercargill Trotting Club s meeting. _ _ _ . , The president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, Mr. 11. F. Nicoll, and the president of the New Zealand Trotting Association, Mr. L. McCarthy, have been visiting trotting clubs in the South Island explaining the new system to the committees. Under the new system all trotting meetings will be controlled by the stipendiary stewards and no longer by judicial committees of the clubs.

Carissima: „ The three-year-old filly, Carissima, who was recently registered by D. Teahen, is by that brilliant trotter, Certissimus, who died prematurely, from Mersa Matruh, dam also of Mamanuas. On breeding Carissima should be a good winner.

Coming Right: Swift Quarry has recovered from the eye affliction which has affected his racing, and he has been working well at Auckland. On a recent morning he galloped a mile in 1.4 in the middle of the track and came home the last six in 1.16 4-5. lhe son of Foxbridge should soon return to the winning list.

A Mudlark: Hunting Loch has been attracting attention at Auckland by her good track work. On Tuesday ol this week she did the best five of the morning in 1.3 1-5 at Ellerslie. Ihe Hunting Song mare should extend her record when the tracks so I ten again.

Attractive Lines: Voltaic, who ran a good second to Karachi in a division of the Sapling Stakes at Woodville, is a chestnut gelding by Revelation —Short Circuit, who was a daughter of the Paper Money mare, Verintia, by Solferino —Anitea, the dam of Rapier. Short Circuit was a halfsister to Rebel Chief, so on his breeding lines Voltaic should be more than useful.

Kindergarten Again: Mr E. N. Fitzgerald hopes to race Kindergarten in the North Island Challenge Stakes at Trentham next week. A box has been booked for the champion, who is reported to have done well in his work at Gisborne lately, and is certain to be at the meeting. has not raced since he won the Hazlett Gold Cup at Dunedin in January, 1945. He has won the Challenge Stakes thiee times, 1941, 1942, and 1943.
