STUDENTS’ DEMONSTRATION
IN EGYPT
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) CAIRO, March 1.
The Egyptian Public Prosecutor called a press conference and informed the Egyptian press that it must not publish news of students’ demonstrations on penalty of imprisonment for six to 12 months.
In Alexandria to-day students burned English text books in the University’s courtyard and elsewhere, and ordered shopkeepers to remove British posters of King George and Mr. Churchill. The Arab League has backed Egypt’s claims in the coming treaty negotiations with Britain, said Azzam Bey, the League’s secretary in a statement. He appealed to Britain and Egypt to get down to real issues.
