CRICKET. The first XI of the Greymouth Technical High School left, yesterday, for Nelson where the annual cricket match against Nelson College second XI is to be played to-day and to-morrow. A four years’ contract to play football for either the Dewsbury or the Hull Rugby League club in England has been offered to Jack Campbell, of Dargaville, who was a member of the 1939 New Zealand League team that went to England, and a former South Island representative. For the past two years Campbell has been playing the Rugby Union code in Dargaville. He has been captaining the Northern Wairoa senior team, which has retained the North Auckland premier trophy, the Harding Shield. Negotiations have not been finalised, but it is understood that the signing-on figure is in the vicinity of £BOO. The contract provides also for employment at approximately £6 a week, while, in addition, the terms offered for playing are: £6 for a win; £5 for a draw; and £4 for a loss. RUSSIAN SOCCER PLAYERS. MOSCOW, December 9. Yakushin, coach of the Moscow Dynamo football team, said that many football clubs in. England offered to buy the forwards Bobrov and Beskov for £lO,OOO each. Riggs defeated Budge for the world’s professional hard-court championship 9/11, 6/3, 6/2, 6/0. The match was decided early in the third set, when Budge developed a severe cramp in his right forearm. Thereafter, he was barely able to grip his racquet. Budge took the opening set after over an hour of sensational exchanges, but Riggs was too steady.
