CONTROL BOARDS
PARTIAL ABOLITION (Rec. 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 10. With a view to the earliest possible removal of all war-time controls on international trade, Mr Truman, Mr Mackenzie King and Mr Attlee issued a joint statement that the activities of the Combined Production and Resources Board, also the Combined Raw Materials Board will terminate on December 31. The Combined Food Board will: continue to operate because of the world shortages of many foodstuffs. The triumvirate also decided to retain meanwhile some committees established under the boards controlling the following commodities, ■ whose shortage makes continued collaboration necessary:—Cotton textiles, tin, rubber, hides, and leather. Certain adjustments of personnel of the committees will be made to secure appropriate international representation. The coal organisation for ■ Europe already exists but special considerations make desirable coal committees in Washington and London to continue in the present form after the dissolution of the boards. The statement predicts the dissolution of the F.ood Board on June 13, 1946, or sooner if conditions permit.
