BUXTON DEFEATS CALTAUX SYDNEY, December 9. Alex Buxton, list 4,’jib, of the Royal. Marines, won his sixth successive fight at the Sydney Stadium last night when ho stopped Vic Caltaux, lOst 81b, in the fifth round. The New Zealander was down three times in the third round for counts of three, lour, and five. After Buxton had knocked him down twice in the fifth round the referee stopped the fight as Caltaux was drunkenly trying io stand up. Caltaux again proved to be one of the toughest fighters ever seen at the Sydney Stadium. He was not marked at the end of the fight, but he had taken terrific punishment. The fight was a wild affair from the first round. The boxers stood apart, measured their ..punches, and hammered away at each other with lefts and rights to the head and body. Caultaux fought at a disadvantage of nearly 111 b weight. Spectators were amazed at the way he came back for more after he had received enough hard blows_to put him out. LIGHT-WEIGHT TITLE. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 9. • Relinquished by Jack Jarvis (Taranaki), the New Zealand light-weight professional boxing championship was decided at Hastings on Saturday evening when Percy Kelly (Auckland) beat Clarrie Rayner (Blenheim) on points. The contest of 15 rounds, for a purse of £l5O, was interesting but unexciting. Kelly being the aggressor most of the time with Rayner showing amazing agility in keeping out of reach. The judges were unanimous, though the verdict received a rather mixed reception. ' MURPHY DEFEATS O’KEEFE WANGANUI, December 9. In a professional boxing bout for a purse of £2OO. Bos Murphy, of Hutt Valley, gained the decision on points against Danny O’Keefe, formerly of the Royal and Royal New Zealand ■ Navies. The bout was staged in the open air on Spriggens Park The crowd of about 1000 approved of the decision, Murphy always being in the lead. . (
