The failure of Golden Souvenir in the Canterbury Cup and the impressive performance of Vafdrt to win the Fendalton Handicap from a strong field were features of’ the final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Victory Cup meeting, held at Riccarton on Saturday. Despite previous rain the track was in good order. Golden Souvenir, a strong favourite, was beaten on the post by Miss Medley, who came with a late finish. Vafort paid almost a score for his victory in the Fendalton Handicap, Master Dash made amends for two earlier defeats with a convicing win in the Members’ Handicap. The totalisator handled £119,614 10/- (win £53,118, place £66.496 10/-). There was no third day last year. The total for the three days was £408,411, an average of £136,155 a day.
