INDIAN NATIONAL ARMY

ACCUSED OFFICERS’ DEFENCE (Rec. 10 a.m.) NEW DELHI, December 7. Captain Sehgal, one of the Indian officers, accused of belonging to the Indian National Army, - opening his defence, said that he- joined the Indian National Army’ because no one was sure of British ability to stop the Japanese advance. He said the only solution was the formation of a strong armed body which while fighting for the freedom of India, would fight any Japanese effort to take possession of India. Another accused, Captain Shah Nawazkhan, said: “It was a case of King or country. I decided for country.” He participated in fighting under the independent Government of free India, and' therefore denied the Court had any right to try him.
