DUBLIN PHONE HOLD-UP
OVERTIME REFUSED. DUBLIN, September 1. . Dublin local and trunk telephone services have been thrown into confusion by a decision of 25 operators not to work overtime. To-day subscribers who were unable to make contact with the exchange during long periods were advised by the Ministry for Posts and Telegraphs to “hold on” until answered, This means that subscribers have to “queue up” on the i switchboard before being answered. 1 Any subscriber who becomes im-. patient at not being answered and! rings off automatically goes to the i end” of the telephone queue on call- i ing again. - ; The operators object to working i 70 hours a week, including overtime, hours, to bring their wages to a' certain level. They demand to be employed only 45 hours a week.
