TRANSPORT DISPUTE

AUCKLAND FERRIES AUCKLAND, December 6. Normal passenger trips conducted by the Devonport Steam Ferry Company were suspended yesterday between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. while members of the Employees’ Union held a stop-work meeting. The crews of the vessels left their work in time to attend the meeting and returned in time to undertake trips at 10 o’clock. The secretary of the union (Mr F. C. Chandler) said the union arranged for a crew to operate a vehicular boat, Korea, which made regular trips between Devonport and the city while the meetin'g was in progress. It was used by vehicles and other passengers. There were no sei vices to other parts of North* Shore. “The union has considered various matters, which are the 'cause of friction between the management of the company and the union,” said Mr Chandler after the meeting. In view of our former good relations with the company we regret such a position has arisen, and we feel it will be aggravated unless some action is taken. The union has therefore appointed a deputation to wait on the directors of the company to promote co-operation between us.”
