TROTTING December 26: Gore. December 26: Ashburton. December 26: Westport. December 26: Reefton-Westport. December 27, 29: Auckland. Poor Response: The presence ol Golden Souvenir - in the Canterbury Cup has resulted in the field thinning to seven acceptors. One of the acceptors, Lance Wing, is also in the Fendalton Handicap. For N.Z.: The Australian jockey, G. Young, has accepted an engagement to ride in New Zealand. His father was a leading rider in the Dominion before transferring to Australia, where he gained great prominence as a rider of Gloaming. Big Winners: The following were the principal stake winners at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting: W. L. Parkinson, £465; O. E. Hooper, £405; H. Stafford, £290; D. Coffey, £265; M. C. McTigue, £235; P. A. Watson, £235; C. L. Rhodes, £225; F. E. Graham, £140; V. Alborn. £ 140: F. Young, £ 140. RACES AT RICCARTON PROSPECTS FOR TO-MORROW [SPECIAL TO "STAR."] CHRISTCHURCH, December 7. The Canterbury Jockey Club will have another attractive card forylhe third and final day of the New Zealand Victory Cup meeting, to-mor-row, and with an improved track us the result: of recent rain, and the promise of a fine day, another big turnover can be expected. Most interest will be centred in the contest for the Canterbury Cup, a weight-for-age race over a mile and a-half. Golden Souvenir is entitled to _ be a good favourite again, but he will be put to the test over the mile and a-half journey by the three-year-olds, Master Robin, Riverview, Thornbridge and Kashmiri, the best of these being Master Robin, who went well in his work this morning. Miss Medley has also to be considered, and it will depend on her showing whether she is sent to Ellerslie for the Auckland Cup. Lance Wing is also in the field, but he will probably be reserved for the Fendalton Handicap, in which his prospects look brighter. An interesting candidate for the Fendalton Handicap is Hormuz, who ran a fair race in the Riccarton Handicap on the first day. He and his mate Tuis were shipped home after the first day, but returned from Welyesterday. The two-year-olds will be divided into two races to-morrow. The fillies will race in the Acorn Stakes, and the Irwell Handicap will be confined to colts and geldings. This is the first occasion such races have been put on. The Stonyhurst Handicap, for. middle distance hacks, has closed with a strong field, and this should be one of the best races of the day. Two fresh horses in Roman Son and Sandy Cape will add interest to the Port Cooper Hurdles. The track will be much slower than on the first day, but unless rain falls in the meantime, the going will still be firm under a thick sole of grass. Under the win and place system the following horses should race prominently: — Port Cooper Hurdles: Lunaria, Prize Ring, Prince Dolomite. Acorn Stakes: Palm Bearer, Naughty Lady, Privilege. Irwell Handicap: Faithful Pal, Blue Simon, Wild Knock. Hagley Handicap: Double Cross, Centime, Peculate. Canterbury Cup: Golden Souvenir, Miss Medley, Master Robin. LONDON, December 5. The Bristol Aeroplane Company, in conjunction with a firm of coachbuilders, has devised containers so they can be fitted to a Bristol freight plane to carry four horses on long journeys and six horses on shorter journeys. “Disciplined” horses can be led into the fuselage up a ramp, but highly-strung animals can be enclosed in special containers and hoisted into the aircraft by means of a travelling gantry.
