1.. - ■ RAILWAY GUARD KILLED. AUCKLAND, October 4. A guard employed on the WaiukuPaerata branch railway was killed during shunting at the Fernteigh station about 9 o’clock this morning. He was Matthew William Thew, aged 44, married, with three children, of Waiuku. A train which left Waiuku for Paerata at 8.50 a.m. pulled into Fernleigh about five minutes later, and the engine had almost completed its shunt and was being recoupled when Thew apparently slipped and fell across the line. He was killed instantly. FACTORY~CONTROLS WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) to-day announced the revocation of four more factory controls, including the Women’s and Girls’ Outer Clothing Manufacture Control Notice 1942, the Women’s and Girls’ Underwear Manufacture Control Notice 1943, and Women’s Footwear Control Order 1943. These three controls imposed simplified standard specifications. “It will be remembered,” said Mr. Sullivan, “that until the controls were revoked in May last similar restrictions applied to the manufacture of males’ outer clothing, shirts and pyjamas. .1 am pleased to announce that the time has now arrived when we are able to revoke the remaining controls affecting civilian clothing.” Another control covering ball and roller bearing has also been revoked.
