SOUTH LEAGUE TEAM

NINE COASTERS INCLUDED Nine West Coast representative League football players secured berths in the South Leagues’ team to play North Leagues’ at Auckland on October 6, while Canterbury and Wellington each provided two men. Thus, the South team to play North will be practically the same as the West Coast team which nearly defeated Auckland, with the exception of W. Glynn and L. Forrest (forwards) and J? Forrest and M. Ord (backs). The nonselection of these two backs comes as a surprise after the kudos received by, Ord after his display in Auckland, while Forrest was considered by many to be the best winger seen on the Coast for many years. The team is as follows:

Full-back: J. Soster (W.C., 20yrs 11.9).

Three-quarters: C. H. Davison (Cant. 35yrs, 14.7); W. Mountford (W.C., 22yrs, 11.0), A. Stenhouse (W.C., 19yrs, 10.7). Five-eighths: C. Mountford (W.C., 26yrs., 11.2), J. McNaughton (W.C. 27yrs, 11.6). Half-back: H. Mallinder (Wgton., 21yrs, 10.2). Forwards: K. Mountford (W.C., 20 yrs., 12.0), C. Mcßride (W.C., 20yrs., 13.0), W. xMoses (Wgtn., 28yrs, 13.0), P. Smith (Cant., 29yrs, 15.8), R. Aynsley (W.C., 32yrs, 13.2, hooker), J. Newton (W.C., 24yrs., 14.0). Emergencies: Back, R. Brown (Cant-., 30yrs., 11.0): forward, A. Gilman (Cant., 24yrs, 15.0). VISIT TO GREYMOUTH .

The West Coast Rugby League has been advised that the Otahuhu Club, Auckland, will now arrive at Greymouth on Thursday, September 27, and will play two games here, leaving on October 2. The team will play Blackball on the Saturday and the following day will meet a team comprised of the other clubs.

It is also hoped that the Richmond Club will visit Greymouth early in October, this club having won the senior championship at Auckland this season, and a visit from the Korodale Club (Wellington) may also take place this season. B. Nordgren, the Ponsonby and Auckland representative League football wing three-quarter, this season has broken Jack Hemi’s record for points scoring set up in 1941. Hemi scored 220 points during that season, but with more games yet to be played, Nordgren’s total is 227 points, made up of 33 tries and 64 goals.
