The somewhat unusual course of voluntarily refunding moneys granted by the Government as a loss of trade subsidy to meet estimated losses was adopted by the Napier Harbour Board. The amount involved was £6OOO. The chairman (Mr. E. J. Herrick) commented on the favourable financial position. and added that a substantial surplus was indicated from the current year’s operations. The Board members expressed the view that it was only proper the money be refunded to the War Expenses Account in view of the circumstances. —P.A. piayinc Auction Bridge at the Miramar Golf Club, while waiting for her partner. Miss Kate F. Kerr dealt’herself a hand containing all 13 clubs. Bidding on the hand was begun by an opponent, who called two spades. Miss Kerr hid five clubs,, and the other nlayer doubled, holding six spades, headed by the Ace and King, and four diamonds. including the Ace and King. Dealing of all 13 cards of a suit into one hand is stated in Ely Culbertson’s book on Contract Bridge to occur mathematically only once m millions of deals, and he offers to nay a reward of £1 to any authenticated holder of such a hand. —P.A.
