ATOMIC ENERGY NEW YORK, Sept. 11. A Central Railroad locomotive will shortly be placed on the siding at Belleville, New Jersey, and work has been begun to convert it to atomic power drive, reports the Associated Press. An engineering specialist, Ralph Lucas, said the locomotive would be fitted with a mercury turine, employing the formula patented in 1939 for the disintegration of mercury and steel atoms. One teacupful of . mercury atoms when exploded would run the locomotive, pulling 120 freight cars for 45 round trips between New York and San Francisco. Lucas declared the formula for the manufacture of electronic power by fusing steel and mercury through intense heat created by electronic disintegration of mercury steel atoms would produce a controllable disintegration of the atom. ’ PEARL HARBOUR INQUIRY WASHINGTON, Sept. 11. A Congressional investigation into the Pearl Harbour disaster was assured when the House passed the resolution previously approved by the Senate. NEW APPOINTMENTS (Recd. noon) WASHINGTON, Sept. 12. Mr. Truman announced at a Press Conference several appointments, including the former Attorney-Gener-al Biddle as an American member of the Allied Military Tribunal to try Axis war criminals; the resignation of Mr. Elmer Davis and the appointment of Mr. Neil Dalton for the purpose of liquidating the Office of War Information. Mr. Truman laughed off a reporter’s question of whether he was going left or right, by saying: “You’ll have to work that out from my acts.”
