MEETING AT GREYMOUTH. A report tabled at a meeting of the Westland Provincial Patriotic Council at Greymouth last evening showed the receipts from the various centres in the district as compared with the levies as follows:—Greymouth £3611 14/11 (£3820); Hokitika, £9OB/13/11 (£1226); Runanga, £7B/17/2 (£506); Ross, £164/5/9 ( £ 120); Kumara —— £110); Brunner, £55/12/- (£430); Westland County £796/9/1 (£2280); Grey County, £393/7/9 (£2140); Inangahua County, £lO9l/2/5 (£1368). Totals, £7lOO/3/1 (£12,000). It was decided that delegates meet the Grey County Council and the Westland County Council with a view to enlisting their full co-operation in meeting the levy. It was also resolv■ed that all centres who have not filled their quotas be asked to increase their efforts to collect the moneys required. The Chairman, Mr. A. R. Elcock, said there was £30,000 in hand for the Welfare Fund, but £50,000 was the aim. It was felt that this sum would be necessary to meet the requirements of servicemen for many years. , . . Tt was decided to defer a decision on efforts to increase the fund until the next meeting of the Council. The National Patriotic Fund Board wrote asking that goods on hand be packed in parcels. n „ The National Patriotic Fund Board advised that no decision would be made regarding the future collection of funds until after the October meeting of the Board and the conference to follow. . n j , J Mrs. F. W. Shallcrass said that many knitters had apparently considered -their work was finished when hostilities ceased. She emphasised, however, that provision still had to be made for men remaining in the armies of occupation. An effort would be made to maintain interest in knitting for the forces. . The Council has received £l9O J.O/5 as its proportion of £10,597 18/9 from reclamation of waste during the year ended March 31, 19'45 and has also received £1241/1/8 as its ,share of the proceeds of the Wellington Trades Council’s Victory Art Union, of which the proceeds were £53,000.
