HOKITIKA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, Sept. 13. Rev. C. ■D. C. Cpswell was last, evening inducted to the parish of All Saints, Hokitika, by the Archdeacon of Rangiora and Westland, Archdeacon Petrie. Also present were Revs. Harding (Kumara), and Bathurst (Ross and Westland). After the service the visitors were entertained at a social gathering. Mr. Bathurst will be inducted to his parish this evening by Archdeacon Petrie. An apology for absence was_ received from Archbishop West-Wat-son. The Hokitika District High School Board of Governors met last even-, ing. Present: Messrs H. W. G. Park (secretary), A. C. • Armstrong, E. Stoop, W. H. Shannon and W. J. Richards. On the motion of Mrs. A. C. Armstrong, Mr. W. J. Richards was appointed Chairman of the Bogtrd. Accounts for rates and insurance were passed for payment. An ■ application was received from the Hokitika Borough Council for the lease of Sections 7, 8 and 9 of the Board’s Reserve. As Sections 7 and 8 were leased, one to a firm now defunct and the other to a person who had left the district, it was decided to clear up the position prior to an agreement with the Borough CounAn application was received from the Railways Department to buy Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Board’s Reserve, Sections 4 and 5 now being leased by the Department. It was agreed to sell the sections for £BoU. Mt was reported that the Canterbury Education Board proposed to build a new school. On the suggestion of the Chairman that technical education was more desirable in this district, and that an effort should be made to obtain a Technical High School, instead of the Secondary High School, it was decided to call a conference of school teachers and committees to discuss the best type of education for the district. Members agreed that technical education was preferable aand the substantial sum to the credit of the Board could be used to assist in the establishment of a Technical High School. .
