HOKITIKA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA? September 7. A public meeting to consider joining the Westland District Progress League was held in the Westland County Chambers last evening, the Mayor, Mr A. R. Elcock, presiding over a poor attendance. The meeting was addressed by Messrs W. D. Taylor (president), Saunders. Bunt and Moss, of the Progress League. It was decided, on the motion of Mr M. B. James, to form a Hokitika Committee of the League. A. motion to form an independent league for the district and co-operate with the Grey League, was defeated by two votes. The visitors were thanked for their attendance by the Mayor, who asked the League’s support of the local protest against the rail-car with returning soldiers'not coming on to Hokitika, so that transport had to be arranged and paid for locally to get the local men home without unnecessary delay. Mr Taylor promised to have the matter put before the League. _____________
