REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, July 23. Owners, trainers and breeders met to consider the formation of an Association, and it was decided to set up in Reefton, an Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association. The following officers were appointed: Patron, Dr. J. L. Wicken; President, Mr. F. Lynch; Vice-President, Mr. C. Coxall. Committee: Messrs J. McGregor, S. Griggs, C. Bennett, C. Murcott, C. A. Belcher, W. Hempseed, W. S. Clark, P. Taylor. Secretary-Treasurer. Mr. L. Woods. Application is to be made to have the Association affiliated and to have the body incorporated. A special meeting is to be. held to consider rules for the Association, and the Buller and Canterbury Associations’ rules are to be studied. The Association unanimously decided to support the Reefton Trotting Club, in a request for a Trotting meeting at

Reefton in November. Messrs F. E. Downey and C. A. Belcher were ap'pointed auditors. ’ The mines on Reef ton coal field for the week ended July 21, produced for railage from Reefton 2125 tons. During the week some heavy trains were dispatched from the yards and on Thursday last 450 tons were hauled in one load of 40 waggons, bein" the heaviest tonnage railed as one train for some time. This was the maximum load for the twn locomotives to carry over the Reefton Saddle This train included a considerable tonnage of Buller coal.
